RULES OF COMPETITION - 2006 Page 1 of 1 1/02/06 09:33 GTCCC RULES OF COMPETITION - INTERCLUB 2006 a) The competition is open to members of all GTCCC member clubs which are in good standing, i.e., have paid dues in accordance with the By-laws. b) The Interclub 2006 competition has six (6) categories. For all categories, the Original Image (or images or image elements) must be the work of the entrant. Any image which fails to meet the criteria of the category may be declared ineligible and disqualified from the competition. 1. Nature Slides: The following Nature Definition will be used Nature Photography depicts Nature subjects, such as animals, birds, plants, geology and phenomena not produced by man. Evidence of the "hand of man" and man’s specialized environment is to be avoided. The accurate record of the subject is the primary objective; however, every effort should be made to use the highest levels of artistic skill in Nature photographs. Photographs of cultivated plants, domesticated and/or obviously controlled specimens, mounted specimens and museum groups are ineligible. Zoo and game farm specimens, butterfly conservatory specimens etc. are acceptable if there is no visible evidence of the hand of man in the photograph. The photographer, whatever photographic medium is used, must have taken the original image. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching and must not alter the content of the original scene. 2. Pictorial Slides: There are no subject/context limitations. Note that the entrant should enter images that qualify as "Nature" in the Nature Slides category. 3. Colour Prints: There are no subject/context limitations. Both entrant-made and commercial prints are eligible. For digital entries, see item e) below. 4. Monochrome Prints: There are no subject/context limitations. Prints may be toned, hand tinted, or coloured with a single colour. Both entrant -made and commercial prints are eligible. For digital entries, see item e) below. 5. Digital Pictorial: There are no subject/context limitations. Note that the entrant should enter images that qualify as "Nature" in the Digital Nature category. 6. Digital Nature: For Nature images, the Nature Definition in 1 above applies. c) There are no entry fees. Each Entrant may submit a maximum of eight (8) images, with no more than two (2) entries in any one of the six (6) categories NOTE: Individual Entrants who are members of more than one club are NOT entitled to submit multiple entries. However, their entry may be sub-divided between the clubs which the entrant belongs to. All images are eligible for Individual Awards and will be used to determine Club Awards. No Individual maker may receive more than one of the top five awards in any category. All original images, i.e., negatives, transparencies, & digital file, must have been taken/created after December 31, 2000 (five-year limitation). There will be only one top award in each category. d) All images must be the substantive work of the entrant. Photographs made in workshops without significant ownership by the entrant may be disqualified from the competition. e) Any/all manipulation of digital images in any of the six competition categories must be done by the entrant. Note that digital manipulation of Nature images should be minimal, as per the Nature Definition above. f) All slides must be in 2" x 2" mounts and fit into a Kodak Universal tray, must be properly spotted for projection, and will be judged as spotted. Each slide must be identified with the entrant’s name, a title, and the Identification Code. Slides mounted with label or tape which inhibits projection will be declared ineligible. g) Prints must be mounted on a solid backing, may be matted, and have a maximum presentation dimension of 20" x 24" and minimum presentation dimension of 11" x 14". Prints with frames, glass, wire hooks, or other hanging devices, or which include title or individual name on the front will be disqualified. The back of prints must be clear of any material which could cause damage or stick to another print. Each print must include an up-arrow to indicate presentation orientation. The club Rep will apply a completed GTCCC Competition Label which includes the entrant’s name, title, and the Identification Code to the back of the mounted print. Note: The GTCCC will take all reasonable steps to protect the integrity of all entries. However, please be aware that the GTCCC cannot assume responsibility for damage to prints, however caused. h) Digital images must be sized to a maximum 1024 pixels wide by maximum 768 pixels high, the format is to be JPEG, and the profile is to be sRGB. Use the file format CATEGORY_ENTRY#_CLUB_MAKER#_TITLE.jpg, with the title truncated to be no more than 20 characters (including spaces), and use all UPPER CASE characters. i) Club Reps must submit their Club Entry at the January 31, 2006 GTCCC Council Meeting. All prints, slides, and CDs will be returned to the Club Representatives at the first GTCCC Council Meeting following the competition judging. j) Any image submitted for the 2006 Interclub Competition may be included on a Competition CD for distribution to GTCCC Member Clubs and/or posted on the GTCCC Website. The GTCCC reserves the right to determine which images are soused. Usage is restricted to viewing by individual club members, viewing at member clubs, and to posting on the GTCCC website. Those entrants wishing to not have their image(s) so-included must advise the GTCCC on their Individual Entry Form, and the Club Rep must include such notation on the Club Entry Form. The photographer retains copyright of their individual images. k) Entrants must follow all Instructions included on Pp. 2 & 3 of the Individual Entry Form. |
